This is a delightful story. I teach first graders and find this book great for younger children. It has a mixture of safety and security as well as the excitement of the unknown. The subject is close to the hearts of young children. When teaching writing to first graders we work a great deal on the use of adjectives. This story uses many words that are in children's vocabulary while providing picture clues to reinforce the vocabulary. The illustrations are detailed, colorful, and provide visual support to the text. This is an excellent addition to children's literature.
